The July 5, 2024 meeting was held at the Watershed District office, in person and via Zoom.
Present: President Brian Weist. Treasurer Anita Hagen, Secretary Pat Ryan, Jeff Gertgen, Dean Volk, Tim Groshens, Ben Anderson, Mark Streed. Gordon Behm, Darvin Hauptli, Brian Knoke. Absent were Bob Meyerson and Tom Hayden. Guests were Moleaer Rep Chris Stephan and via Zoom Dan Coughlin MFCR Watershed Adm. and Andy Johnson MFCR Watershed Project Manager.
The purpose of the meeting was in regard to the algae bloom seeking possible solutions. Chris Stephan, representing Moleaer spoke of the nano bubbler which puts oxygen into the lake water and improves water condition in the lake bottom, improving the bottom sediment. Needs would be a nano bubbler generator, recirculation pump, electricity with ongoing electrical expense, floating dock to attach pipes or a barge. Possible costs were mentioned with possible assistant funding through the Minnesota CleanWater Fund qualifying for a loan over 7 years. Yearly expenses would be servicing the air compressor twice a year, monthly cleaning of the nano bubbler and periodic cleaning of the water pump. Weeds would need to be removed prior to installation of a nano bubbler. Water clarity shows improvement after several days use of the nano bubbler, less algae, less odor. less muck, improved oxygen level.
Research will be done on weed harvesting costs, ie harvester, operation costs, etc. There are no quick fixes for weed control.
Weedfest committee has plans in place with hours being 2-7 on July 20, 2024 at the County Park.
Motion made, seconded and carried to allow $200 for incidental expenses.
Next board meeting will be August 10, 2024 at 9:30 at the Watershed District office in person and via Zoom.
